Partner Connection
Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships
Healthy relationships help us feel better about ourselves and about our place in the world. Unhealthy relationships make us feel unsafe.
What makes relationships healthy?
There are seven basic qualities:
1. Respect
2. Honesty
3. Equality
4. Good Communication
5. Trust
6. Fairness
7. Responsibility
Having a healthy, loving relationship starts with you!
Some questions to think about:
- Do you respect yourself?
- Do you trust yourself?
- Are you honest and fair with yourself?
- Do you expect people to treat you as an equal and as a responsible person?
- Do you speak openly about your feelings?
Once you can answer yes to these questions, then you are ready for a happy and healthy relationship.
Self-Esteem
Self-Esteem effects:
- The way you live.
- How you think, act and feel about yourself and others.
- How successful you are in setting and achieving your goals in life.
The Four Conditions of Self-Esteem:
- Connectedness: feeling connected to other human beings.
- Uniqueness: feeling good about your differences and about being different.
- Power: having power over your own life, you can make something of yourself.
- Sense of purpose: everyone has a purpose, a reason why they’re here.
Remember...
- Self-esteem can be improved.
- Don’t let past failures hold you back.
- You owe it to yourself to learn and feel good about who you are.
