10 Ways to Get Involved
Interested in learning about some ways you can ensure your pro-choice voice is heard by the Republican Party?
-
Organize a Planned Parenthood Republicans for Choice chapter.
Planned Parenthood affiliate at (904) 399-2800 ext. 144.
-
Take it to the frontline.
Organize a group of individuals to stand up for choice by volunteering as clinic escorts with Planned
Parenthood of Northeast Florida.
-
Organize and host a pro-choice Republican visibility event.
Organize a group of friends to go out on the town in their pro-choice T-shirts, gathering petition
signatures and distributing stickers to fellow pro-choice supporters.
-
Educate your community.
Help organize and recruit more pro-choice Republican activists and supporters through tabling at
community events. You can also recruit more pro-choice activists using e-mails and listservs. Help your
friends and family join Republicans for Choice.
-
Lobby for increased access to comprehensive, medically accurate, age-appropriate sex education.
More than two-thirds of federally funded abstinence-only programs distort information and mislead young
people by giving them false information about abortion and contraception, particularly about the
effectiveness of condoms. Urge your local elected officials to stop funding programs that distort
the truth and call for an investigation of such programs.
-
Host a book club.
Invite pro-choice Republican supporters to read important choice-related books and literature at your
next cocktail party or informal gathering.
-
Dear W. letter-writing party.
Over the course of this year, we want to flood the White House with letters, faxes, e-mails, cards,
and phone calls regarding why our supporters are pro-choice AND Republican. Let's raise our voices and
remind the administration that the Republican Party represents a "big tent" of supporters, including a
crucial bloc of pro-choice Republicans. Host a tea or cocktail party with your pro-choice Republican
friends and ask them to write a letter to President Bush reminding him that the majority of Americans
are pro-choice. You can also urge friends and family to send letters to their U.S. senators about the
importance of protecting the Supreme Court from extremism. Find out how to voice your views on the
Supreme Court.
-
Reel Advocacy.
Host a pro-choice movie night in your home. Invite fellow supporters for a pro-choice film viewing,
discussion, and refreshments. You can see a current film at a local theater or rent one to show at home.
(Suggested movies: Vera Drake, Kinsey, Cider House Rules, Love and Basketball, and Saved.)
-
Planned Parenthood on Campus.
Work with local schools and college campuses to invite a staff member Planned Parenthood of Northeast
Florida to speak about the importance of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court, and comprehensive sex education.
-
Chalk the walks.
Chalk messages on sidewalks in well-traveled areas around your community on important choice-related
issues. Messages can be statistics about unwanted pregnancies, catch phrases, and short, positive messages
about our fight for women's lives.
